Jan Luykx
Biography
Ambassador Jan Luykx joined the Egmont Institute in January 2024 as Senior Associate Fellow in the Europe in the World Programme. He is a Belgian diplomat who started his international career in Vienna as a member of the Belgian CSCE-team. He later served in Copenhagen, New Delhi and at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU. He was Deputy Chief of Mission at the Belgian embassy in Washington DC. He was deputy chief of staff of the Belgian Foreign Minister and chief of staff of the Minister for development cooperation. He was ambassador of Belgium to Warsaw, to Bern and to New Delhi (with concurrent accreditations in Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Bhutan). His last official position was that of Chairman of the Belgian National Security Authority.
He has an MA in Oriental Studies and a Baccalaureate in Philosophy from the K.U. Leuven, and an M.Phil in Philosophy from Delhi University.
