Strategic Communication, a Key to The Success of The EU’s Global Gateway

In 2021, the European Union (EU) unveiled and commenced its flagship programme to partner with countries in its neighbourhood and around the world. The European Commission has “set out the Global Gateway, a new European strategy to boost smart, clean and secure links in digital, energy and transport sectors and to strengthen health, education and research systems across the world”. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated: “We will support smart investments in quality infrastructure, respecting the highest social and environmental standards, in line with the EU’s values
and standards. The Global Gateway strategy is a template for how Europe can build more resilient connections with the world”.

Between 2021 and 2027, Team Europe has been allocated a budget of up to 300 billion euros of investment to mobilise for sustainable and high-quality projects. These investments should, according to the policy statements of the EU, take into account the needs of partner countries. In addition, they should also ensure lasting benefits for the local communities (European Commission, n.d.).
