Jihadi Groups and Armed Conflicts
Through its Focus on Jihadi Groups and Armed Conflicts, Egmont seeks to increase knowledge about jihadi groups’ emergence, expansion, governance and strategies in relation to armed conflicts. The group brings together a wide array of different actors from academia, diplomacy, defence, and development to discuss and exchange on these topics with the aim of improving our understanding and thereby construct better suited strategies and policies to deal with the groups. We examine both historic and recent developments with regard to jihadi groups in diverse theatres of armed conflict, such as the Sahel, the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region and Mozambique, to provide comparative analysis across time and space. We convene both open seminars and closed meetings in relation to specific events, groups, and tactics on a regular basis and invite EU and NATO practitioners alongside academics, civil society and security actors focused on the topic in question.
