The Arctic, a new front for great power conflict?

Through its Focus on Arctic, Egmont seeks to be a reference point in Brussels on the fast-evolving dynamics of the Arctic region, at the intersection of geopolitics, climate change, and economic development. We analyse how environmental transformations, great power competition, and emerging economic activities are reshaping the region, and what this means for the European Union and its member states. Particular attention is given to sustainable development, maritime routes, resource governance, security dynamics, and the role of indigenous communities.
We regularly convene experts from government, academia, industry, and international organisations in a series of closed-door meetings and targeted workshops. Our approach combines strategic analysis with practical case studies, with the aim of providing operational policy recommendations for Belgium, the EU, and their partners. We cooperate closely with European and international research institutes, policy networks, and Arctic stakeholders.
