There are currently the following vacancies at the Egmont Institute:
2 Doctoral Researchers for the Europe in the World Programme
Application Deadline: 1st March 2025
In the framework of the EU-funded doctoral network Contested EU Foreign Policy in an Era of Geopolitics (EUFOG), the Egmont Institute is recruiting 2 doctoral researchers, starting in the academic year 2025-26, for a period of 3 years. You will be employed by Egmont and enrol as a PhD student at Ghent University, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sven Biscop.
At the Egmont Institute, you can apply for one of two projects:
- The politics of defence. EU member states debate armed forces in an era of great power competition.
- Is geopolitics the only game in town? The sources of Grand Strategic thought in the EU.
You can also apply for positions at the other partners in the network.
Please note the mobility rule: applicants for Egmont must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Belgium for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their recruitment date.

STUDENT INTERNSHIP FOR THE AFRICA PROGRAMME
Application Deadline: 14th February 2025
The Africa Programme is looking for a part-time intern to start either before the 20th February or after the 10th March for 3-5 months.
The intern will support the work of the Africa programme, by providing administrative and logistical support to the different activities undertaken in the programme, including the organisation of conferences and webinars. She/He will provide research assistance to the Director and Senior Research Fellows, when needed, and assist and take notes of meetings and conferences. The intern will be able to assist in international conferences and seminars, gain experience from conference organization and research work, and expand his/her professional network through these activities.
The internship is not remunerated, and must be combined with ongoing studies, such as MA or PhD programs, in a Belgian university.
Requirements:
You are either finishing an MA, or a PhD in Political Science, International Development or International Law and have knowledge of, and interest in, political and security developments in Sub-Saharan Africa. You possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English and have a strong command of French and Dutch. You can come to Brussels one or two times per week, depending on the planning of the programme.

For an Autumn semester internship (Sept-Jan), applications must be received by 15 June at the latest.
For a Spring semester internship (Feb-June), applications must be received by 15 November at the latest.

The Communications & Events department of the Egmont Institute is regularly looking for the assistance of a full-time Intern for periods of 3-4 months during the academic year. The internship is not remunerated, is onsite in our Brussels office, and must be combined with ongoing studies in a Belgian university. Our working language is primarily English, so a minimum C1 level is required.

The European Affairs Programme at the Egmont Institute regularly seeks a full-time Intern to support its research activities and events for 3–4-month periods during the academic year. Knowledge of the internal workings of the EU institutions and decision-making processes is essential.
This onsite internship, based in our Brussels office, is unpaid and must be combined with ongoing studies in a Belgian university. The working language is English, and proficiency in Dutch or French is an asset. We are looking for a fast learner with a positive attitude and a wide range of interests.
