In the outer reaches of the geopolitical fray, diplomatic activity is bustling. In the front and back rooms of power, top diplomats prepare important political decisions, build bridges or clear rubble. Dealmakers, mediators, strategists, networkers… Diplomats come in many shapes and sizes, but their role and influence are crucial in the relationships between world leaders and the determination of their policy.
In Logboek van een topdiplomaat, Johan Verbeke looks back on the most striking passages from his diplomatic life and grants us a unique and personal view of diplomatic life and work behind the polished facades of world politics. A hands-on book about trial and error, success and wonder, power and influence in the catacombs of international relations that reads like a political thriller.
The book is published in Dutch. The presentation and discussion will take place in Dutch.
Welcome by Pol De Witte, Director-General of the Egmont Institute.
Johan Verbeke will be interviewed by Prof. Dr. Sven Biscop, Director Europe in the World at the Egmont Institute.
Please note that this is an in-person event.
