The Egmont Institute has the pleasure to invite you to an Africa Seminar with Dr. Paula Cristina Roque, Senior External Advisor, co-founder of the South Sudan Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies in Juba, and author of the book “Governing in the Shadows: Angola’s Securitized State” (2021).
In August 2022 Angola’s presidential and legislative elections were allegedly won by the opposition, signaling a wide call for reform and change. The ruling MPLA contested this position, and engaged in repression and intimidation, indicating a move towards greater authoritarianism and securitization. In this seminar, Dr Roque will put these events into the wider perspective of securitization of the state and politics by Angola’s MPLA regime since independence and highlight a different way of looking at Angola’s post-conflict state-building.
Please register by 05 December.
