The Egmont Institute is hosting an in-person lunchtime discussion with Joost Korte, Special Envoy for the EU–Canada Partnership. The event will focus on the future of EU–Canada relations ahead of the next Canada–EU Summit, including the Special Envoy’s mandate, current priorities, and expected outcomes.
The discussion will address the broader geopolitical context, including NATO, the role of “middle powers,” and the EU’s place in this evolving landscape. It will also cover cooperation in areas such as trade and CETA, financial and regulatory cooperation, digital affairs, security and defence, energy and critical materials, research, and people-to-people relations.
The conversation will be introduced by Jean-Louis De Brouwer, with contributions from Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Ambassador-designate to the EU, Julien Lecomte from the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and John Hannaford, Personal Representative of Prime Minister Carney to the EU.
