Between 1 and 6 June 2026, the Education & Training Programme of the Egmont Institute organised a five-day “Exchange of Expertise on the Fight against Drug Trafficking and Organised Crime in Brussels”, at the initiative of the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation, Mr Maxime Prévot.
The programme brought together representatives from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay, alongside Belgian authorities and experts. The exchange provided a valuable platform for sharing expertise, strengthening mutual understanding, and enhancing international cooperation in addressing the challenges posed by transnational drug trafficking and organised crime.
Over the course of five days, participants gained a comprehensive overview of Belgian and European approaches to combating organised crime. The programme combined strategic discussions with operational insights and field visits, including to the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Liège Airport, and Brussels Airport, offering participants a unique opportunity to explore both policy and practice in the fight against drug trafficking.
