This event will mark the conclusion of the mandate of Catherine De Bolle, Executive Director of Europol (2018–2026) and offers a timely opportunity to reflect on the evolution of European police cooperation while looking ahead to the future of the EU’s internal security architecture.

In a more complex geopolitical environment, the line between internal and external security is fading. Transnational threats such as organised crime, drug trafficking, cybercrime and terrorism call for stronger, more coordinated, and forward-looking responses.

Against this backdrop, the event will bring together senior policymakers, law enforcement leaders, and thinkers from across the Brussels internal security community to discuss:

  • Structural and geopolitical challenges to EU security and the growing interlinkages between internal and external security
  • Achievements in international police cooperation and the future role of Europol in a changing threat landscape.

The event will open with a keynote speech by Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Technological Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy.

The panel discussion will feature high-level representatives from EU Institutions and Member States’ law enforcement authorities.
