Every five years, ahead of the appointment of the European Commission, EU Heads of State discuss and agree on the EU’s political priorities for the future. The EU strategic agenda 2024-2029 that will be adopted by the European Council in June 2024 represents a key milestone that will shape the upcoming legislative cycle and provide a framework for EU action on key areas such as resilience and competitiveness, security and defense, climate change, the EU’s role on the global stage, and enlargement. Understanding this agenda and its implications from a policy, regulatory and economic perspective is crucial for organizations operating in the EU.
As the current institutional cycle comes to an end and negotiations on most legislative files are concluded or on hold, the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU will now intensify efforts to support the adoption of the EU strategic agenda 2024-2029 and prepare discussions on the future of the EU. During the event, our speakers will present insightful perspectives on how the Belgian Presidency has been progressing on this pivotal item so far, providing a state of play on the latest developments related to the strategic agenda that will be adopted in June 2024, exploring the implications that it will have during the next five years, and offering participants the possibility to ask questions and share inputs.
