Climate change, the decline of biodiversity, and increasing pollution demand comprehensive and resolute action from the European Union. At the same time, however, the Green Deal agenda needs to ensure that the transition happens fairly, benefitting our societies and leaving no groups of our populations behind. Ahead of a new political cycle, the Belgian Presidency will have the opportunity of enshrining this principle of a just green transition into the EU’s priorities for the next five years.

At the University of Ghent, we will discuss the challenges confronting the EU and the Belgian Presidency of the Council as it propels the green and just transition. Panelists and students will evaluate the needs of citizens and workers most affected by this transition and share ideas on what can be done.
