After many years of comparative neglect, the outlook for Belgian defence policy is undergoing a sea change. Responding to rapidly evolving security environment and in keeping with the 2016 Strategic Vision and the 2017 Military Programmation Law, the 2018 defence budget provides for a significant increase in commitment credits. This sets the stage for a major round of equipment modernisation and highlights the need for recruiting adequate numbers of men and women in uniform. This Egmont conference will explore what lies beyond the horizon of the present legislative term. It will seek to address the question to what extent Belgium will continue to be able to meet its national security requirements and international obligations in the years to come.

The debate will be conducted in French and in Dutch without translation.
