Europe is experiencing an unprecedented level of jihadi activities. The number of terrorist attacks is increasing year on year, while the scope of radicalization is troubling. According to some sources, there would be more than 50,000 islamist radicals across Europe, a number of which could pose a threat to the society. This event will explore how the terrorist threat is evolving in Europe, following the weakening of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. Should more attacks be expected, and in which form? Furthermore, speakers will also share insights with regard to the evolution of the phenomenon of radicalization across Europe, focusing on Western and Southern Europe. They will seek to anticipate how the phenomenon could evolve in the post-caliphate context. Eventually, the discussion will address some of the solutions that are implemented, or should be developed, in light of this morphing challenge. The conference will directly benefit from the insights of two speakers who are working first-hand on these issues, one as adviser to Italy’s Prime Minister and the other as coordinator for the Brussels Region.
