Mvemba Phezo Dizolele writer, foreign policy analyst, independent journalist and professorial lecturer in African Studies at Johns Hopkins University will speak about President Trumps Africa policy. The election of Donald John Trump to the presidency of the United States shook domestic politics and signaled major shifts in the relationships between the White House, the Congress, the Judiciary, the Intelligence Community, the Press and the Electorate. Executive orders and proposed legislation projects reflect President Trump’s determination to keep his campaign promises at all cost. The President’s pronouncements and foreign policy have sent even bigger shockwaves in international affairs. His proposed budget upsets the balance between the traditional pillars of diplomacy, defense and development, propping up defense to the detriment of diplomacy and defense. The ramifications of this approach for US Africa policy are slowly emerging. This lecture examines the expected changes and how they may affect US engagement in the region and the relationship with key partners in Europe and Asia.
